  • Visual Arts Taster course

    This is a great way to explore and try out a range of visual art disciplines and processes. It is a fun, dynamic and exciting introduction to a world of possibilities. There is no prior knowledge or skills required, just a sense of adventure.

    Build your confidence with demonstrations and practical exercises on the visual language of drawing where we show and guide you how to get across your ideas with different techniques and approaches. We then take a similar approach to painting, assemblage sculpture and mixed media.

    Session 1- Drawing fundamentals

    Learn how to draw with some fundamental drawing techniques and mediums essential to any creative pursuit.

    Session 2- Drawing project

    Apply and practice your newly learnt drawing techniques to a drawing project with your facilitator guiding you along the way.

    Session 3- Painting fundamentals

    Learn basic colour theory and some fundamental painting techniques to achieve different effects.

    Session 4- Painting project

    Apply and practice your newly learnt painting techniques to a painting project with your facilitator guiding you along the way.

    Session 5- Sculpture fundamentals

    Learn some fundamental techniques by exploring assemblage sculpture including how to use basic tools and learning the possibilities in sculptural materials.

    Session 6- Sculpture project

    Apply and practice your newly learnt assemblage sculpture techniques to a sculpture project with your facilitator guiding you along the way.

    Session 7- Mixed media fundamentals 2D

    Have fun with exploring the endless possibilities of combining different media and materials in a 2D format.

    Session 8- Mixed media fundamentals 3D

    Apply and extend your exploration of different media and materials to a 3D format looking for exciting possibilities along the way.

    Costs: $495 (day classes). $395 (evening classes)

    Times and dates: 1 day per week for 8 weeks. 9:30am to 2:30pm for day classes or 6pm to 9pm for evening classes.

  • Introduction to Creative Design

    This is a fantastic introduction to the creative design process. You will create an artwork of your choosing and we will step you through it following the same process we do as creative professionals. There is no prior knowledge or skills required.

    We will take you through planning your work with research and creative thinking; the creating stage of concept design and experimentation; the refining and putting together or building of your artwork; and the documentation stage where you photograph your work imparting a senses of narrative through lighting and scale.

    It is great way to explore and discover a world of cross-pollination of media and disciplines from art, design and photography.

    Week 1- Creative thinking and concept development
    Working with design briefs, establishing a context and working out constraints, concept development, creative thinking and formulating ideas. Planning and research with initial test works.

    Week 2- Concept exploration
    Exploring and testing, creating thumbnails, concept roughs and models

    Week 3- Potential and possibilities
    Looking at the potential and possibilities in materials, equipment, and processes. Incorporating feedback and refining the look and feel of your work.

    Week 4- Prototyping
    Creating an initial prototype.

    Week 5- Refinement
    Feedback. Modifications, refining and further developing your prototype or model.

    Week 6- Make and create
    Making and creating your final project

    Week 7 - Photography and video
    Making and creating your final project. Exploring possibilities of photography and video related to your work.

    Week 8- Documentation
    Documenting your work to develop narrative through scale, location and lighting.

  • Introduction to New Processes.

    With so many exciting new processes and ways to create out there, this course brings some of them together. We look at some new and cutting edge methods to generate art work in a range of new media.

    You will create an artwork of your choosing starting with concept art, then create a model or prototype; use photogrammetry which essentially uses your camera like a 3D scanner; resolve and refine a digital 3D model; then 3D print it. Finally you will photograph it in specifically set up studio and apply a variety of effects.

    This course is packed with adventure and exciting learning. You don’t need any previous experience, only a willingness to try new things.

    Week 1- Creative thinking and concept development
    Working with design briefs, establishing a context and working out constraints, concept development, creative thinking and formulating ideas. Using technology to create thumbnails, concept roughs and initial concept art.

    Week 2- Planning and research
    Planning and research with initial test works and virtual models. Consolidating and evolving your ideas into a solid concept

    Week 3- Modelling and prototyping
    Creating a physical model or prototype. Looking at the potential and possibilities in materials, equipment, and processes. Incorporating feedback and refining the look and feel of your Prototype .

    Week 4- Photogrammetry
    Taking your physical work into the virtual with photogrammetry.

    Week 5- Editing and modifying
    Editing and modifying your 3D model with software to create a watertight 3D printable file.

    Week 6- 3D printing
    Tuning and calibrating a 3D printer. 3D printing your model.

    Week 7- Photographing
    Post printing refinements and getting your work ready to photograph. Photographing your work in a studio and creating effects through lighting and environments.

    Week 8- Visual effects and videography
    Digitally editing your photograph to create a range of effects. Possibilities and use of Videography to tell a story through your work.
