Character design and Cosplay

Explore this exciting and ever growing artform and learn how to come up with original and unique ideas to create an authentic character from the deep depths of your imagination. Visually communicating an idea, a key frame, or the look and feel of a new character is and important part of making sure everyone involved in a project is on the same page. We show you all steps of this process including conceptual development, creating thumbnails, concept roughs, prototypes or models and finally, usable finished art artworks You will then learn how to combine and manipulate materials to create interesting forms and textures.

The course culminates in a photography session bringing your character to life.

There is no age limit for cosplay!!!

Course Outline.

 

In this 6 week course you will learn:

- How to use creative thinking techniques to come up with unique and original ideas

- How to develop your ideas through concept sketching and planning

- How to use a variety of sculptural techniques and materials to create different forms and effects

- How to bring your character to life in a supportive and fun studio environment

Week 1

Working with design briefs, establishing a context and working out constraints, concept development, creative thinking and formulating ideas.

Week 2

Creating thumbnails, research and concept roughs.

Week 3

Incorporating feedback and refining the look and feel of your work.

Week 4

Story boards, narratives and development of an initial prototype.

Week 5

Refining and further developing your prototype or model.

Week 6

Finished artworks and documentation.

Costs: $495

Times and dates: 1 day per week for 6 weeks. 9:30am to 2:30pm

Any time you design a character ……it's going to become the definitive design for that character, so you don't want to hack something out. You need to put in the kind of care it warrants if it's going to live in history.
